FCA: The Future of Mobility
Envisioning The future of how people interact with their vehicle and the environment around them
Through four months of research, discussion and creating, our team worked along Fiat Chrysler Automotive (FCA), envisioning a new internal vehicle system. This system connects the user with the environment around them while creating the ideal internal environment for a range of activities. Our pitch was a system that created unparalleled comfort in your vehicle.
What is “the third space?”
We began our research in literary sources. Working spaces are rapidly changing and the perceptions of traditional workspaces are being totally altered. The environmental components of these spaces are key in creating a comfortable and productive space for people to work.
Generative Research: Work Environments
Trends in workspaces lead us to out first research method. A survey went out to 30 professionals to get a better understanding of where and how people work today.
Individual workspace activity
Knowing what people value in a workplace, the next step was to dive deeper and discover rational for these preferences. An activity and interview was devised and given to 16 professionals across the country.
Creating a space activity
It was important to actually see how people physically interacted wish spaces. This two part activity was devised to see how people create work and social spaces. We also tested visual and auditory sensations while the participant was in the space.
In the first experiment, we had participants build their ideal workspace. They worked in the space for 20 minutes while we manipulated sound and visuals on a windshield.
The second experiment was based in a social environment. We had teams of two build their ideal social environment in the space allowed. They then socialized in the space for 20 minutes while we manipulated sound and visuals on a windshield.
Moving into a solution
All of our generative research was highly informative. Takeaways from each step helped give us themes to prioritize in our final concept video.
